Everything Feels Urgent… Until Your Body Makes You Stop
There was a time in my life when everything felt urgent.Everyone needed something. Every workshop mattered. Every yes felt required.
I was working 26 workshops a week at Weight Watchers. I told myself I could handle it. I told myself I was strong. I told myself I’d rest later.
My body had other plans.
I got so sick I couldn’t drive a car. I couldn’t get out of bed for more than a few minutes at a time. My husband had to take me to the doctor because I physically could not function. They ran every test imaginable—blood work, scans, everything.
The final diagnosis?
Pure exhaustion.
No hidden illness. No complicated explanation. My body was simply done.
I was sick for eight weeks. Eight long, scary weeks where I genuinely wondered if I would ever feel like myself again. I remember lying there thinking, What if my body never recovers? What if this is it?
That fear stays with you.
It was in that moment I truly understood how dangerous unmanaged stress can be. Stress doesn’t just live in your thoughts—it settles into your body. And when it’s ignored long enough, your body will force you to listen.
When I was finally able to return to work, I made a hard but necessary decision.I cut my workshops in half.I stopped glorifying being busy.I started taking care of myself.
Not perfectly. Intentionally.
Why Making Yourself a Priority Is Non-Negotiable
For a long time, I believed putting myself last meant I was responsible, reliable, committed. What I learned the hard way is this:
When you don’t make yourself a priority, your body eventually removes your ability to choose.
Making yourself a priority isn’t selfish. It’s preventive care.
Your body needs consistency more than intensity.Your nervous system needs margin, not pressure.Your health needs protection, not attention only after things fall apart.
Prioritizing yourself looks like:
Saying no before you’re resentful
Building space into your schedule so one hard day doesn’t break you
Sleeping even when your to-do list isn’t finished
Eating to fuel yourself, not just grabbing what’s convenient
Pausing daily to check in instead of pushing through
If you’re waiting for life to slow down so you can take care of yourself, hear this clearly:
That moment doesn’t come on its own. You have to create it.
This Is Exactly Why the Power of 13 Exists
The Power of 13 wasn’t created by accident. It was born from lived experience—mine and thousands of others.
Burnout doesn’t happen from one bad day.It happens from small things ignored over time.
When I was working those 26 workshops a week, I wasn’t breaking one big rule—I was slowly breaking all of them:
I wasn’t sleeping enough
I wasn’t pausing
I wasn’t moving with intention
I wasn’t eating to support my body
I wasn’t enforcing boundaries
The Power of 13 is a set of guardrails—simple, common-sense practices designed to keep you from reaching a breaking point.
Sleep. Movement. Nutrition. Boundaries. Mindfulness.None of these feel urgent in the moment.Until your body makes them urgent.
When I finally slowed down, healing began. Not because I did more—but because I did what mattered consistently.
If everything in your life feels urgent right now, I want you to ask yourself one honest question:
What is my body quietly tracking that I’ve been ignoring?
Because your body keeps score. And the goal is never to wait until you’re forced to stop.
The goal is to live in a way that allows you to keep going—strong, supported, and well.
If this story resonates, don’t brush it off. Awareness is the first signal. Action is what changes the outcome.
