Stop Waiting
I'll be happier when I lose the weight.
I'll buy new clothes when I lose the weight.
I'll take the vacation pictures when I lose the weight.
I'll join the class, go to the party, start dating, wear the swimsuit, and put myself out there... when I lose the weight.
I hear versions of this every single week in coaching.
And I understand it because I have lived it too.
Somewhere along the way, many of us started believing that life begins at goal weight. That confidence, joy, and opportunities are rewards we earn after our bodies become smaller.
But what if we've had it backward all along?
Life Is Happening Right Now
The hard truth is there will always be another goal.
Five more pounds.
Ten more pounds.
A different pant size.
A flatter stomach.
A younger-looking face.
If we keep waiting to feel worthy, we may spend years standing on the sidelines of our own lives.
I don't want that for you.
I don't want you to miss family photos because you don't like how you look.
I don't want you to skip vacations because you're uncomfortable in a swimsuit.
I don't want you to avoid relationships, celebrations, or experiences because you're waiting for some future version of yourself to arrive.
Life is happening today.
Not twenty pounds from now.
Confidence Is Built, Not Earned
One of the biggest myths in health and wellness is that confidence comes from weight loss.
I have coached people who reached their goal weight and still didn't feel confident.
I have coached people in larger bodies who radiated confidence and joy.
Confidence doesn't magically appear when the scale hits a certain number.
Confidence comes from the promises you keep to yourself.
It comes from:
Taking the walk
Showing up for yourself
Setting boundaries
Drinking your water
Eating foods that make you feel good
Moving your body because you can, not because you have to
Doing hard things and realizing you're capable
Confidence grows from action.
Stop Saving Things for "Someday"
Wear the outfit.
Take the picture.
Go on the trip.
Try the class.
Apply for the job.
Go to the concert.
Sit in the front row.
Use the nice dishes.
Life isn't a dress rehearsal.
I often tell my clients that we have no idea how much time we get. Waiting to start living until you hit a number on the scale can become an endless cycle.
Health Doesn't Begin at Goal Weight
You do not have to reach your goal weight to begin improving your health.
Health can begin today.
Health can look like:
Taking a ten-minute walk
Adding vegetables to your plate
Sleeping an extra hour
Saying no when you need to
Drinking another glass of water
Strength training twice a week
Managing stress
Speaking kindly to yourself
Every one of those things improves your health regardless of what the scale says.
The scale is one piece of information. It is not your entire story.
The Power of 13 Approach
The Power of 13 has never been about perfection or waiting for some ideal version of yourself.
It's about doing simple things consistently.
Move your body.
Sleep.
Pause and be mindful.
Double your vegetables.
Create boundaries.
Track your food and feelings.
Read something positive.
These small actions don't just change your health. They change your relationship with yourself.
Become That Person Now
Maybe the version of yourself that you keep waiting to become isn't waiting at the end of a weight-loss journey.
Maybe that person is built one decision at a time.
They are the person who goes for the walk.
They are the person who takes the picture.
They are the person who buys clothes that fit and feels good wearing them.
They are the person who says yes to opportunities.
They are the person who believes they are worthy today.
Not someday.
Today.
Because you don't need to become a different person to start living your life.
You simply need to start acting like the person you want to be right now.
Take the trip.
Wear the outfit.
Move your body.
Laugh in the photos.
Celebrate your progress.
And remember, there is no one right way. Health is not a destination you arrive at when the scale reaches a certain number. It is a collection of choices you make today, right where you are.
Your life is not on hold.
Your life is happening now. 💜
