You Didn’t Forget How to Lose Weight — You Forgot What Works for You

What Works For You?

You Didn’t Forget How to Lose Weight — You Forgot What Works for You

One of the most damaging beliefs people carry into a weight-loss restart is this:“I don’t know how to do this anymore.”

But that’s not true.

You didn’t forget how to lose weight. You forgot what works for you.

And those are two very different things.

Past Success Still Counts (Even After Regain)

If you’ve lost weight before — whether it was 20 pounds or 100 — that success still matters. It means:

  • Your body knows how to respond

  • You are capable of consistency

  • You’ve already learned valuable lessons

Regain does not erase experience. It adds to it.

The problem isn’t that you “failed.”The problem is that you may be trying to repeat something that no longer fits your life, your body, or your season.

Why “What Worked Before” Doesn’t Always Work Again

Life changes — and so do we.

What worked five, ten, or twenty years ago may not work now because:

  • Your schedule is different

  • Your stress level is higher

  • Your hormones and metabolism have shifted

  • Your priorities have changed

This is where people get stuck. They think:

  • “I should be able to do what I did before.”

  • “If I can’t do it that way, I must be doing it wrong.”

But weight loss is not one-size-fits-all — and it’s definitely not one-size-for-life.

The Myth of the “Right Way”

Diet culture loves rules:

  • Eat this, not that

  • Do it this way or it won’t work

  • If you’re not strict, you’re not serious

That mindset creates guilt, burnout, and quitting.

The truth? There is no one right way — only your way.

The best plan is the one you can:

  • Repeat

  • Sustain

  • Adjust without quitting

Why the Basics Matter More Than Ever

This is exactly why I built the Power of 13 around fundamentals — not trends.

The basics work in every season because they’re flexible:

  • Portion awareness

  • Daily movement

  • Sleep and recovery

  • Tracking food and feelings

  • Boundaries, mindfulness, and consistency

You don’t need to overhaul your life. You need to reconnect with habits that fit now.

How to Rediscover What Works for You

Instead of asking, “What diet should I follow?”Try asking:

  • What habits helped me feel my best?

  • What structure supported consistency?

  • What made this feel doable — not miserable?

Then start small:

  • One habit at a time

  • One decision at a time

  • One day at a time

Progress doesn’t come from perfection. It comes from alignment.

This Isn’t a Restart — It’s a Refinement

You’re not back at square one. You’re bringing wisdom, awareness, and experience with you.

Your job isn’t to punish yourself for regain.Your job is to find your easiest path forward.

And when you stop chasing the “right way” and start honoring your way — everything changes.
