No… Really. Are You Doing Everything You Need to Do to Lose Weight?

There are days when I catch myself thinking, “I’m doing everything right. Why isn’t the scale moving?”

Maybe you’ve had those thoughts too.

The funny thing is, after 25 years of coaching, I know better. I know the questions to ask. I know the habits that matter. Yet every once in a while, I have to pause and take an honest look at myself.

Am I really drinking enough water?

Have I been as consistent with my walking as I think I have?

Am I getting enough sleep?

Have my portions quietly started getting a little bigger?

Am I eating enough protein?

Have I been stretching? Strength training? Managing my stress?

The answer isn’t always what I expect.

Sometimes I realize I’ve been giving myself credit for what I intend to do instead of what I’m actually doing.

That realization isn’t meant to make me feel guilty. It’s meant to make me aware.

Because awareness is where change begins.

So before I blame my age, hormones, metabolism, or anything else, I ask myself one simple question:

"Coach Paris… are you really doing everything you need to do to lose weight?"

Sometimes the honest answer is yes.

But more often than I'd like to admit...

The answer is, "Not quite."

And that's exactly where today's conversation begins.

One of the things I hear most often is, "I've tried everything."

Have you?

Really?

Or have you tried a lot of things for a short period of time?

There's a difference.

As we begin talking, I often hear things like...

"I don't really track my food anymore."

"I know I should eat more protein."

"I don't drink enough water."

"I haven't been sleeping well."

"I walk when I have time."

"Weekends are my weakness."

"I snack while I'm making dinner."

"I don't really meal prep."

Suddenly, "I've tried everything" becomes...

"I've tried some things... some of the time."

That's not failure. That's simply awareness.

So let's do an honest check-in together.

Nutrition

Ask yourself...

  • Am I eating enough protein every day?

  • Am I eating vegetables with most meals?

  • Am I drinking 48–64 ounces of water?

  • Am I measuring portions or simply estimating?

  • Am I eating because I'm hungry or because I'm bored, stressed, tired, or emotional?

  • Am I planning my meals before hunger takes over?

  • Am I limiting my white foods like sugar, white flour, and processed snacks?

  • Am I being honest about weekends?

  • Am I drinking calories I don't even think about?

  • Am I slowing down enough to enjoy my food?

Movement

Now let's talk activity.

  • Am I moving every single day?

  • Am I walking enough?

  • Am I sitting for hours without getting up?

  • Am I strength training at least twice a week?

  • Am I stretching consistently?

  • Could I add another 10 minutes of movement today?

Movement isn't punishment.

It's one of the greatest gifts you can give your body.

Sleep

Sleep is one of the most overlooked parts of weight loss.

Ask yourself...

  • Am I getting seven to nine hours?

  • Do I have a bedtime routine?

  • Am I scrolling on my phone instead of sleeping?

  • Do I wake up rested?

Poor sleep affects hunger hormones, cravings, energy, decision-making, and recovery.

Sleep isn't a luxury.

It's part of your weight-loss plan.

Stress

Stress doesn't automatically cause weight gain.

But it absolutely changes our choices.

When life gets hard...

Do you meal prep?

Or order takeout?

Do you go for a walk?

Or head for the pantry?

Do you take five deep breaths?

Or tell yourself you'll start over Monday?

Learning to manage stress is part of becoming healthier.

Mindset

This one may be the hardest.

Ask yourself...

Do I quit after one bad meal?

Do I believe I have to be perfect?

Do I compare myself to everyone else?

Do I celebrate my progress?

Am I patient enough to let healthy habits work?

Your body hears what your mind says every single day.

Follow Through

Here's the question that matters most.

Do I know what to do...

Or do I actually do it?

Most people don't need more information.

They need more consistency.

They need more planning.

They need more follow-through.

The Power of 13

This is exactly why I created the Power of 13.

There isn't one magical food.

One magical workout.

One magical supplement.

It's the combination of small, consistent choices that changes your life.

Half portions.

Walking.

Protein.

Vegetables.

Healthy fats.

Stretching.

Sleep.

Strength training.

Reading something positive.

Tracking.

Boundaries.

Limiting white foods.

Taking time to pause.

None of those things are exciting.

None promise you'll lose 20 pounds in 30 days.

But together?

They work.

Here's What I've Learned

Even after maintaining a 65-pound weight loss for over 20 years, I still have to check myself.

Healthy living isn't something you master once and never think about again.

It's something you practice.

Life changes.

Schedules change.

Stress changes.

Our bodies change.

Sometimes we need to make small adjustments instead of looking for a completely new plan.

That's what awareness is all about.

One Final Question

Before you tell yourself you're doing everything...

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Be honest.

Not about your best day.

Not about your intentions.

About your average week.

Because your average choices create your average results.

If the answer is, "There's one thing I could improve," that's good news.

You don't need to start over.

You don't need another diet.

You simply need to make one better choice today than you made yesterday.

That's how real health is built.

One choice.

One habit.

One day at a time.

Because at Always On Your Side Coaching, we don't chase perfection.

We build lifestyles that last.

So I'll leave you with one final question...

No… really… are you doing everything you need to do to lose weight?
