Stop Waiting to Feel Like It
"I don't feel like walking."
"I don't feel like cooking."
"I don't feel like tracking my food."
"I don't feel like going to bed early."
Sound familiar?
If you're waiting until you feel like it, you may be waiting a very long time.
Here's something I want you to hear today...
Nobody feels like it every day.
Not me.
Not your neighbor.
Not the person who seems to have it all together.
Not the person who has lost 100 pounds.
Not the marathon runner.
Not the fitness instructor.
Nobody.
We all have days when we'd rather stay on the couch, order pizza, skip the workout, or tell ourselves, "I'll start tomorrow."
The difference isn't that healthy people are more motivated.
The difference is that they make a decision before their feelings get a vote.
Feelings Come and Go
Think about how often your feelings change.
Some mornings you wake up full of energy.
Other mornings, not so much.
Some days you're excited to cook.
Other days cereal sounds like dinner.
If our health depended on how we felt every day, none of us would make much progress.
Feelings are temporary.
Your habits are what shape your future.
Keep the Promise
One of the most important things you can do for yourself has nothing to do with the scale.
It's learning to keep the promises you make to yourself.
When you say you're going to take a walk...
Take the walk.
When you plan a healthy lunch...
Eat the healthy lunch.
When you decide to drink more water...
Drink the water.
Every time you follow through, you build something far more valuable than motivation.
You build trust.
And once you trust yourself, everything starts to change.
Confidence Isn't Found...
It's Earned
People often tell me,
"Coach Paris, I just wish I had more confidence."
My answer surprises them.
Confidence doesn't come first.
Confidence comes after you prove to yourself that you'll do what you said you were going to do.
Not once.
Not perfectly.
But consistently.
Every promise you keep is another brick in the foundation of confidence.
Lower the Bar...Not Your Standards
Some days you have an hour to exercise.
Some days you have ten minutes.
Walk for ten.
Some days you're excited to cook.
Some days you throw together grilled chicken, frozen vegetables, and a baked potato.
That's still a healthy meal.
Some days you don't want to track every bite.
Track breakfast.
Or lunch.
Or simply write down one thing you did well.
Doing something is almost always better than doing nothing.
I Coach Myself Too
People sometimes think that because I've maintained my weight loss for so many years, healthy choices must be automatic.
They're easier than they used to be.
But not effortless.
There are still mornings I don't feel like putting on my walking shoes.
There are evenings when takeout sounds much more appealing than cooking.
The difference is that I don't ask myself,
"Do I feel like it?"
I ask,
"What kind of promise do I want to keep today?"
That one question changes everything.
Your Challenge This Week
Pay attention to how many times you say,
"I don't feel like it."
Then replace it with a different sentence.
"I don't feel like it...but I'm doing it anyway because I made a promise to myself."
Maybe it's a five-minute walk.
Maybe it's filling your water bottle.
Maybe it's choosing protein first.
Maybe it's tracking one meal instead of all three.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is becoming someone you can count on.
Because healthy people aren't healthier because they always feel like making good choices.
They're healthier because they keep showing up.
One promise.
One choice.
One day at a time.
